REVIEW FROM BITCOIN MAGAZINE:
“Before the first best-selling bitcoin novel hits shelves, before the first bitcoin blockbuster opens at your local theater—you will want to read this book.” - Eric Bies.
21 Futures is a cypherpunk fiction project designed to further our understanding of privacy, personal liberty and financial freedom. We believe stories are the perfect devices to bring about meaningful change.
This book can work as an ‘orange-pilling device’ for friends or family members who prefer fiction to technical explanations. Fans of sci-fi, cyberpunk and dystopia will be gripped by these tales. And 21 Futures should be on the bookshelf of any self-respecting bitcoiner.
Tales from the Timechain presents 21 gripping short stories which explore the meaning and impact of bitcoin.
- Political dissidents scramble to cross the threshold to freedom.
- A decades-long hunt for keys incites a change in world order.
- A clear-blood dares to question the oppression of noderoids.
- A cryo-frozen oligarch wakes into his worst nightmare.
- A lowly space station miner buys a planet.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2024This collection masterfully traverses the spectrum from the intimately personal to the expansively cosmic, exploring the myriad ways in which Bitcoin could shape our lives, societies, and humanity’s place in the universe.
Each story is a universe unto itself, from the intriguing tale of siblings unraveling a 12-word seed puzzle left by their wealthy father, to the vast and visionary worlds of deep space mining, settlements on Mars, and even a tale of children who live on a refueling hub 1.5 million kms from Earth—all facilitated by Bitcoin. It ventures into the realms of Bitcoin singularity, where the timechain blurs with human existence, and proposes the idea that the discovery of sound money might be Earth’s ticket to one day joining a federation of planets.
There are plenty of twists and turns, with Bitcoin acting as the thread that weaves these diverse narratives into a cohesive exploration of future possibilities. For sci-fi fans, there's an abundance of innovative ideas that stretch the imagination, as Bitcoin makes things once only imaginable now seem tangibly within reach. And for Bitcoin enthusiasts, the exploration of potential impacts and use cases, both positive and negative, provides a rich ground for speculation and debate.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2024A compelling and imaginative concept to have 21 different authors write future tails of the timechain. Particularly enjoyed 'Diamond Hands'.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2023"21 Futures" isn't just a book; it's a narrative revolution. From the tension of murder mysteries to the expanse of intergalactic dystopias, the anthology is a tapestry of transformation.
The anthology incorporates bitcoin into its narratives, but it does so through the lens of fiction and storytelling without annoying "evangelism" or narrative pushing. It respects the reader's choice to interpret these universes as they will.
This anthology claims to be the first of its kind and promises that the journey has just begun. I am eager to see where Konsensus takes us with the inevitable Volume 2.
"21 Futures" is a must-read for anyone interested in fiction, specifically Sci-fi, and most of all to those who are curious about the possible implications of bitcoin adoption and are not averse to controversial and even negative takes on bitcoin. Balanced, intriguing, and educating. 5 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2024There are some real gems in this set of stories. As with all anthologies, there are some highs and lows, but it’s definitely worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2024I honestly love short stories so this review might be biased, but this is an amazing collection of stories.
Not only there are so many different styles of short stories but the way they all take the concept of Bitcoin and bring it into their Sci-Fi narratives is amazing.
It goes beyond "selling Bitcoin", it talks about the principles behind it and the need for it. However, it isn't preachy at all. It just immerses you into different scenarios, universes, and times, to give their own take on it and let's you decide what you want to do next.
Of course, I'm bullish on Bitcoin, but this collection of short stories is for anyone, even if you have no idea what Bitcoin, blockchain, or cryptocurrencies are. It will just open your eyes to new ideas and amazing characters and stories.
Definitely worth the read!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 202421 Futures is epic!
Love the ingenuity of the authors. Had me begging to read more! Some favorites in no particular order:
15 “Who Let the Bitcoin Dogs Out?” Will Schoellkopf has over 100 dogs lives at risk as an international spy mystery plays out over national hash forces.
14 “Eye in the Sky” Eduardo Prospero imagines a family drama over a lucrative off grid Bitcoin mining citadel
00 “The Last Mugging” John Champaign newspaper article from a physical mugging of a digital asset
06 “Bitter Fly” Fanis Michalakis over the discovery of something deep in the genesis of the Bitcoin timechain
09 “The Baked Goods and Bitcoin of Skirophoria” Angelique Fawns waking up after being cryogenically frozen to a nightmare
Every story really had me wanting to read more. Haven’t had this much fun playing with ideas in a long time! Grateful to be included in this project :)

- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 202321 Futures is a brilliant concept in that the vast majority of Bitcoin content thus far has been predominantly non-narrative. So to not only create content for a different audience, but to do so with impactful and meaningful Bitcoin-related short stories is powerful. Being a Bitcoiner, each story gave me a mini-"light bulb" moment. I was able to make the connections to the immense value propositions of Bitcoin; like a treasure hunt for twenty-one different orange pills. I can only imagine someone new to Bitcoin receiving their own "light bulb" moment with each short story. One feeling I particularly appreciated was from the overarching sci-fi theme; it gave me flashbacks to reading Robert Heinlien's masterpieces decades ago. Bravo!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023The stories in this anthology are so diverse in perspective it's like having 22 books on your shelf (they snuck in a bonus story). It's almost impossible to imagine that this could be done around one simple subject: Bitcoin. If you are a HODLer (a bitcoin veteran) you'll find yourself laughing, cheering, or shaking your head in disagreement about what the future my hold for you, but you'll always be entertained. If you have only, kinda, heard about Bitcoin I would imagine this would be quite the introduction. It was a wild ride through these stories but, like a rollercoaster, I'm going to jump back in line again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fiction Through A Very Interesting Lens - Recommended!
Lovers of sci-fi and those interested in the intersection of decentralized finance and storytelling, take note - 21 Futures will get you thinking.
There are both good ideas and quality prose in here - wildly imaginative stuff.
Easily worth the price of a petrol station coffee!

2.0 out of 5 stars Can’t get into it
Maybe it’s good. Maybe it’s not. But it just didn’t grab or keep my attention. Just couldn’t get into it. Giving book away.
